Hi,

can anyone recommend a good mortgage broker in Dublin? I'm sure there are posts here on this already but I couldn't find them so apologies.

I used Omega Financial Management of Booterstown, they were very good. They sorted out the life assurance and home insurance also; both of which you have to have to get a mortgage.

If you are a member of certain professional institutions they do special deals aswell e.g. member of Engineer's Ireland.

Mike Lavelle GMC, 087-8180521 & he'll sort everything, friendly service

I used REA and they were good apart from delays in getting letter of offer but that could have been bank itself so I would still recommend REA. If you check their website you'll see they also have offers that include your conveyancy fees.

I dealt with REA. Haven't bought anywhere yet but they were helpful and got approval for a pretty good multiple of salary within 2/3 days. Mainly chose them for the conveyancy deal

My accountant referred me to a broker in town John Hughes from PNI.
He has been excellent, he has been very patient with all the questions I've had and doesn't seem to be biased towards any banks, etc.

PNI/ Irish Mortgage Consulting

Have Used colm Quinn of IFG Mortgage Quinn and found him very easy to deal with and his office is on clanbrassil street.

Would also recommend REA. They were very thorough and professional and everything ran very smoothly with my purchase. They sourced out the best rate and were able to get approval for more than I would have got if I had approached the banks myself. The rate on the conveyancing is also great. Don't have any connection with them other than having used their services recently.

and so are prob most other brokers...i've heard of friends with other brokers knowing the same information.

It wasn't as issue for me.

I have to say their service was impeccable. i didn't have to lift a finger. absolutely everything was arranged for me. Great communication. Everyhting closed out quickly and easily.

So you would rather have your financial details passed on to an agent trying to extract the maximum price out of you than 'lift a finger'?

Each to their own I guess.

my point is
a) that was back in 2006 and seeing as it was broadcasted on national tv, i doubt they are doing the same thing now.if it was illegal then i'm sure some orgaisation or other would have brought them to court.
b) Plenty of other brokers were doing the same thing.
c) Simply mortgages have been brilliant... and i would go with them again if needed.

So if it's not illegal, it doesn't matter?

Maybe they were-does that excuse Simply Mortgages?

Sorry, I can't allow a recommendation for Simply Mortgages go without making others aware of the facts.

But you may have been paying more than you needed to.......

From the article

But it is our belief that it was a mistake on the part of our employee who did not realise the use which could potentially be made of the information which he provided to the person who had referred the customer to him.

Indeed.

Don't know if I would want someone so 'naive' to deal with a mortgage application on my behalf.

give it a beak lol... as you would have read in that article, an independant audit of all transactions was undertaken... they wouldn't risk it now...

anyway op asked for recommendation, as i have used them 3 times and found them brilliant i recommend them!

But you may have been paying more than you needed.......

how do you work that out? I pay what i think it is worth.. not a penny more or less. any prudent buyer would have done research on similar properties and would know how much was the going rate.

My point is that I won't let a recommendation for Simply Mortgages go without making sure readers are aware of the other facts.

then it is also your responsibility to highlight every single other EA/Brokerage who may have possibly done the same thing in the past.. i.e. most of em.

Hi Apple,

I think that's an unfair generalisation based only, it seems, on anecdotal evidence. Yes, I'm a broker and so "I would say that, wouldn't I?"

But I also would have many friends and acquaintances in the mortgage broking business who wouldn't dream of selling out their clients in this manner. Many of them are fairly low-profile and run very successful businesses from referrals from existing clients alone, with no need to advertise. So apart from personal ethics, it can be very financially beneficial to treat your clients well.

The sort of carry-on witnessed on Prime Time (and by your friends if you're talking about the same practices) is unquestionably wrong, but to label a whole profession with a sweep of the brush "most other brokers" is excessive, in my opinion.

Give me some names and evidence and I will do so.
