When in process of buying home I don’t see on forms this question and don’t remember being asked

If I was previously denied a loan years ago for a small amount just a few thousand (low wages at the time and no savings) does that matter and do I have to tell them?

You don't have to tell them but the details may be recorded in the Central Credit Register, you can apply for a copy of your details here. Do so prior to applying.

The CCR does not record that a loan was refused, so they won't know. They also won't ask such a question so plough on.
