Is it the case that tilers will generally charge more to lay natural stone or travertine tiles ?
And if so, how much more ?
Am being told by tiler that this is normal, and just want to make sure I'm not being taken for a eejit so to speak.

Marble, Natrual Stone & Travertine is more expensive to lay than Ceramic or Porcelain.
The preparation and sealing of the Marble, Natrual Stone or Travertine is quite labour intensive.
As for how much more, it really seems to depend on where you are based in the country.

If you go to the expense of spending your valueable time sourcing & purchasing the product my advise is:
"Do NOT scimp on the laying"
Too many people blow the budget on the materials & try to cut corners on the laying!

My tiler charged €16.50/m2 for porcellin and i think it was €19.50/m2 for travertine (2 years ago), you'd probably get better rates now

What he said !

Just do a search here for a few horror stories on badly laid tiles. And there is no easy fix.

Us, we spend a small fortune on levelling and laying marble tiles. Was it expensive? Yes.

Could we have gotten a cheaper tiler? Probably.
(A mate got a cheaper tiler to lay his tiles, and now has hollow spots under a few of them, which drive him mad every time he walks over them and hears them.)

Was it worth it? Dam right!

I now have a perfectly laid 100sq m. of marble, and boy is it a joy to look at (for the next 40 years).

Buddy Boy - would you mind sending me the contact details for the person who laid your "perfectly laid 100sq m. of marble"? I have a 110sq m of apartment to floor. Was initially thinking tiles, but some research has lead me to believe marble might be the way to go.

Thanks,
Pukka

get a good tiler to fit the floor. and dont think the cheapest quote is the best. if your going to spend money on a good tile, aslo spend it on a good tiler. look for a qualified tiler on one of the reputable tradesman sites like onlinetradesmen.
