Mice in my dishwasher!

Hi,

I have an integrated dishwasher and when I opened yesterday and again today there was mice in it!!! :eek::eek: My question is does anybody know how they are getting into it. My husband got the two mice from yesterday out of it last night. I haven't used it or opened it today and again there was a mouse in it when I checked it just now. I can't understand how they are getting in...

I don't know if I can give the make of it online...

Sure why not?

I'd say they are coming up the drain pipe, where the water outflows. Don't know how they are getting into the actual machine though as there isn't much in the line of exits fromthe casing into the actual washing area, is there ??

Through the waste pipe would be my guess... presumably the dishwasher is water tight (or else there would be puddle on the kitchen floor!) so the only way in must be the way that the water goes out ?

A friend of mine once told me that a mouse can squeeze through a hole the diatmeter of your little finger. The food/crumbs on the crockery must be attracting them.
 
Where does this waste pipe go to eventually? Is there any way you can put a one way valve on it?
 
It's whirlpool and it's only a year old. I rang them and they said they couldn't help me at all. The dishwasher goes on every day sometimes twice a day. I would be very clean when it comes to keeping the house right so it's not due to food lying about the place. Dirty ****bags :mad: I know it's the time of year for them but the dishwaher of all places...

I'm assuming it's outside. I was thinking along the lines of that. It'll be fairy, hot water and the sink for washing the dishes for a loooooong time.
 
It is a physical impossibility for mice to get into a dishwasher from outside via the waste-pipe if you have all the metal filters installed.

I believe it is much more likely that they are getting into the machine from inside the house via the dishwasher door.
 
Mathepac... I didn't open the door from last night. It was sealed, tight shut and then there was one when I opened it today. I took everything out of the dishwasher. I've checked again and I can't find him so he's getting in and out of somewhere.

How would I know if the metal filters were installed.

Many dishwasher wastes are fitted with a trap
this prevents drainage smells or mice getting into a machine.
They could possibly squeeze past the pump impellor.
If there is no room for it at the back of the machine a waterless one from Hepworth manufacturers could be fitted externaly perhaps. (It will not freeze)By a qualified plumber of ccourse. seee one on plumbing page plumbersdiary.com

No not at all news of a free feed travels fast
Their only problem is getting back out again after eating all your leftovers.

Us plumbers always always consider ease of rinsing dishes as the machine is loaded Whether the user is left or right handed for example.

You do rinse them don't you???

I don't know what you mean by the above... ?

I don't rinse dishes before I put in the dishwasher unless it's the likes of boiled egg in a cup!
 
think he means whether the sink is to left or right of dishwasher depending on handedness

If you don't know where the filters are and you don't rinse food particles off the dishes before you put them in the machine, I'm not surprised the meeces love your machine to pieces - it must be like a pongy homing beacon for them!

Have a look at your dish-washer manual, it'll show you where the filters are and will also tell you how often they need to be washed out or changed.
 
Open your dishwasher door and look at the inside top. Some have a 2inch plastic bung which if removed would be sufficient to allow the furry creatures to drop down. Might need to pull out the dishwasher to get a better idea.
 
I say run the dishwasher ALL the time then you won't have a problem !! and the ESB will love you !! but the bank manager won't:(
