Maternity Unpaid

Hi

My sister is planning on taking some unpaid leave at the end of her maternity leave, roughly 8 weeks.
She has been in receipt of Mat Benefit topped up by the company

What social welfare entitlements will she receive.
She has been in continuous employment for the last 5 years paying full PRSI.

How does she apply?

She may be entitled to Unemployment Benefit/Assistance but I doubt it and in the case of voluntarily giving up work (which is not strictly the case here) it is usually delayed for up to c. 6 weeks. In any case she would not be available for and seeking work so that would rule her out anyway. I presume that she'll be claiming Child Benefit at least? There may be some other welfare or [broken link removed] entitlements but I doubt that she will be entitled to much to be honest. Check out and maybe the local as well in case there's anything useful there.

Make sure to research all of the options - there may be some welfare/tax entitlements but I can't think of any obvious ones (other than Child Benefit) off the top of my head.

I know of a few people who've got their doctor to sign them off sick for a few weeks after maternity leave. I know its not very ethical because technically they aren't sick but just went to the doctor and said they were really tired and run down (not unusual with a new baby!) I think it's something like €148.80 a week and then deduct the doctor's fee but it's better than nothing

The 8 weeks unpaid maternity leave are just that unpaid.
You are not entitled to calim anything as you are fir for work but not actively seeking employment.
