A visit to any Tesco up north will quickly disabuse you of that notion. It was undoubtedly true in the past but definitely no longer.

The Treasure Island thing is nonsense by the way. A whackadoodle former TD dreamt that up.

Well over a decade ago, Tesco paid big money for a new site in my local town, and also handsomely part-financed an access road to it. It remains undeveloped because presumably they doubt the economics of the mooted new store that was to be located on it.
