That wouldn't be great. I have a few years contributions so hopefully they can find them and with a bit of luck they'll have issued or can issue a National Insurance number given that I have a form that indicates I applied. Definitely worth the spin up North to check it out.If you never got a National Insurance number then you've fallen at the first hurdle
Also time pretty much up for NI number by post etc.Posted 7 months ago by https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/public/b07c9497-3293-ed11-aad1-6045bd0e7eb9/forum-posts (HMRC Admin 25 Response)
Temporary National Insurance Numbers are just something that an employer would use on their payroll, until they are given a full National Insurance Number from their employee.
There is no register for a Temporary National Insurance Number so you may wish to speak with your employer about this.
However, your should give them your full National Insurance Number at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.
You will not be given your National Insurance number over the phone. It will be posted to you and can take up to 10 working days to arrive.
The quickest way to get your National Insurance number is through your personal tax account.
Which is why the recommendation is to head up north this week.NI number by post
Thank you. I went to Newry today. Arrived at 4.57 and had my NI number at 5.03! A lovely lady at reception was very helpful. It was traced through my passport and address from 45 years ago.Which is why the recommendation is to head up north this week
Yes I have a load of stuff from them, payslips, P60s etc that show I did pay tax and income tax returns etc. Managed to get through to the number they gave me this morning and he booked another appointment in Newry on 8th April to get me a national insurance number and said to just bring everything I have to show I worked. The guy I was talking to was way more helpful than the receptionist yesterday who really just entered my post code and gave me the telephone number to ring. I guess they are getting a lot of walk ups now so can't be spending too much time investigating which is fair enough. In the meantime, are you able to track down your old employers for whom you don't have paperwork? You should start that now in case you need it as evidence. Old bank statements etc. Anything at all that can prove you worked there.
