Has anyone any info on Longford for an investment property- Interested in getting Rural Renewal (Section 23 type) tax relief. Having visited the main town and villages, seems estates are all over the place!

Here are some previous thread on rental property in Longford. Bit of a No No.

I don't think it's just Longford that's going to be like this. There are probably many towns that are too far from Dublin to comfortably commute from on a daily basis, Dublin is the hub where the growth and jobs are.

There are 3 trains in the morning from Longford and these take nearly 2 hrs to get to Connolly (departing 6.20am 7.00am and 8.11am). That's 4 hrs a day on the train, and then to get from the apartment to Longford train station, and from Connolly to place of work.

There is also the not insignificant cost of travel. Put yourself in the place of a potential renter, would you like to live there or rent nearer to work in Dublin. You might consider buying a starter home in Longford, but I would say a renter would get tired of the travel, with nothing to show for it, i.e. not owning the bricks and mortar, very quickly.

Also with the C&D factory burning down, given the number of people now out of a job, relative to the total population of the area, this is likely to have an adverse effect on the whole locality.
