Long term disability payment what happens at 66

I have a relative who has a mild mental disability and has been on long term disability payment. He has never worked and would be unable to do so.
What happens when he come to 66 will he be transferred to the state non contributory pension ?
If so what differences is there in the payment

They will have to apply for State Non-contributory Pension. I would advice applying about 6 months before he reaches 66. The current rate is €266 less any means they may have.
