Laying wooden floor on lino

Will be laying a wooden floor soon in a room that has lino in it and was wondering whether it is possible to lay the floor directly on top on the lino.

One floor company said no and mentioned the possibility of sweating while another company said it shouldn't cause a problem.

Any views out there?

Sometimes lino can be impossible to budge if it was glued down.

What type of wooden flooring do you intend laying and do you plan to glue it or leave it as a floating floor?
Also, what is the area involved?

Very quick and easy to do. I'm amazed that you would consider laying laminate on top instead.
 
The room is a standard size - approx 12 square metres.

I can take up the lino no problem - I'm just wondering whether it is possible to lay the wooden floor on top of it without having to use underlay.
 
If the lino is good and flat all round, then it could make a good underlay for the wooden floor. I did that with laminate a few years back in a kitchen which would get a lot of traffic and changing humidity (large range type oil cooker, condensor dryer and gas hob in there!). Still looks in perfect condition. What kind of wood are you thinking about?

Is the wooden floor being glued down or is it just a click together job? If the floor is being glued then you need to remove the lino, as the adhesive would dissolve it and your floor would lift.
