Hi,
I'm on Laya Simply Connect and the price is going up again and its become to expensive. My wife and I have just reached 70 and now have a GP card.
We both need Cardiac and Orthopaedic options cover. is there any alternatives that would offer this or am I wishful thinking any advise is most welcome.

There are many alternatives - in fact here is Laya's list of their plans with full orthopaedic cover:-

The majority of these policies seem also to have full cover for specialist cardiac procedures in Hi-tech hospitals. Some have full ophthalmic cover too (which Simply Connect Plus no longer has I see). Of course there is always a price to pay and policies costing less than SCP will often have higher excesses, restricted hi-tech hospital access, or lower Everyday Medical Expenses cover.

If you run up €2000 worth of Everyday expenses each a year - ie Laya refunds you €1000 each - then you might want to consider sticking with SCP for now. If not then you could go through the list, check the plans out on the Laya website, and find cheaper alternatives (including Simply Connect) to suit you and your wife (you don't have to be on the same policy).

SCP has suited me so far as I have high Everyday costs, but the latest price increase will make me think again when my renewal date comes up. Everyone's health needs are different, and there's no substitute for spending an hour or two checking out and comparing different policies.

Hi Dave, I renewed recently and am also retired now. I was on Laya's Power Plan last year but changed to Simply Connect this year. I had private room cover in Private hospitals which I didnt realise or need. The most important thing really in my opinion is access. Next is the option of co-payment for orthopeadic procedure etc. and our likely to be friend Hi-tech hospitals. It's hard to know if the hi-tech is quite as important as we may never need to be there but that's the risk. Overall, I felt that if you can retain access to all the hospitals without co-payments, any extra excess or day charges are worth accepting. I don't think there are any other plans cheaper than Simply Connect that give you those 2 things. If you are happy to accept co-payments for some procedures, there are a lot of options and not just with Laya. Best of luck with it all.

Hi @Dave70 and @Milkman,

The comparison between the two policies Simply Connect (expensive premium @ €2,262.38) and Control 600 Connect (premium €1,585.40) which both have the 100% cover for ortho and ophth i.e. no co-payment is here. Obviously the other aspects of the cover are less on the Control 600 Connect one such as lots more excesses and the day-to-day cover is not as good either.

Previous AAM discussion here on the Control 600 Connect policy.

@Dave70 you would need to discuss carefully with Laya about the extent of the cardiac cover on the cheaper policy if you were to consider it as an option.
