I have some money in a US bank account. Given the current goings on in the US would it be best to get it over here to euros or leave it there and see if the dust settles. Thanks

How much and why? Normal advice would be to keep your cash in same currency as your mortgage etc. If you have a house in US or visit regularly might be a good reason to keep some US cash etc

Then its just gambling. If anyone on here had a genuine clue what would happen we would be all lumping in on the one currency about to go up. Everything the market knows is priced in. Therefore my advice would always be to keep your cash in the same currency as any debt.

It is gambling. I’ve got about 600€ and I’m just going to ignore it for now
, but who knows what else would I do.

I need it in Ireland but wondering if exchange rate is going to go up or down.
Why have you got it in a dollar bank account in the first place?

The orthodox wisdom is to match your assets to your liablities. If you expect to spend this money in euros, then keep it in euros. If you keep it in dollars then, as farma1 says, you're gambling. If the dollar strengthens against the euro, you'll win; if it weakens, you'll lose. You cannot reliably know whether the dollar will strengthen or weaken.

All of this was true even before Stupid Thursday. The only thing that has changed is that the stakes seem bigger. You're now more focussed on the possiblity of EUR:USD exchange rate movements, and perhaps you think those movements might be larger than you would have expected before last week. But you're still gambling with the same stake that you always were.

You may be happy taking a punt on the exchange rate; you may even enjoy it. Treat this as a good moment to think about how you got into this position, and ask yourself if you're comfortable to be in this position.

I have a USD account with a tidy sum in it that I use for when I'm travelling there. If you do that, then what happens to the rate is no skin.
