Only one of the functions of prisons is to prevent repeat offending. Others include offering the victims the chance of seeing justice being done. It is part of the healing process. Liberals too often forget that the one who deserves greatest compassion is the victim. It is their right to see the person who stole from them, raped them, murdered their father, or whatever, put away for a long long time. Once they’re locked up, away from decent people, then we can figure out ways to cure them – but firstly let’s get these scumbags off the streets.
