Is mileage recorded on D.O.E. test?

I thought I came accross this in a recent thread but after a search I can't find it...

Basically I was wondering if the mileage of a commercial vehicle is recorded when it passes through the D.O.E test centre? If so, is it possible for anyone to request this information on a particular vehicle?

Thanks.

Yes it is recorded. If you contact the Transport Department they might steer you in the right direction to find what the last recorded mileage was. If you know where the test was taken place you could talk with the manager and ask could he help you out by looking at his records to see. if you suspect millage fraud he might help you out .

Thanks for that. Gave them a ring and the woman said the only info she had was whether it passed or not, no mileage records. But she did give me the details of when and where it was last tested and the guy on the phone was very reluctant (he wasn't sure whether he was allowed to or not) but enventually gave me the details. They seemed to back up what's on the clock so I'm happy enough as far as that goes.

Worth the phone calls anyway, cheers!

just remember the doe test does not guarentee the milage ,they only read it and write it down ,could have been clocked before the test ...these guys are good at what they do!(clockers) my advice would be to get a very good mechanic from AA or "google" mechanics who specialise in assesing cars/vans for clocking and get a report done .they will know by various methods if they think a car has done more miles than it appears .when you think a 30 or 40k miles taken off can add a good bit to a sellers price thousands even ,for a procedure that might cost a few hundred euro.

Normally I can tell by just looking at the steering wheel, gearstick, pedals etc. They will often tell straight away if it has been used a lot. I'm sure more experienced mechanics will be better able to spot a lemon using their own methods. It might be an idea to bring one along

However, this particular jeep has 28k on the clock. It's a 2004 commercial. According to the log-book it's had 1 owner from new and the last DOE (May 2006) recorded the mileage at 20k. If it was clocked, it was clocked by the owner maybe a year and a half into ownership (i.e. pre DOE test in May '06) and not the garage, which seems unlikely.

The only thing throwing me is that the service booklet looks brand new! Not a crease on any page, and there's nothing in it, not even a pre-delivery inspection stamp. Perhaps it was lost and replaced, I can't remember what the salesman said at the time, but I'm just trying to cover as much as I can.

Having said all that, the inside is spotless (seats, dash, carpets etc) and the bodywork is very good which leads me to think the mileage is genuine. The garage are also giving a 12 months Toyota Dealer Cover warranty on it, which should stand for a lot.

Sounds genuine to me , if there was another 20k miles would it really make a difference in price ? maybe not. I have a commercial van but only do about 12k a year so id go for it,garage deal helps too .

Yeah, sounds clean alright. I've gone ahead with the deal anyway and am picking it up later this morning. I'm going to bring my brother out with me anyway as a second pair of eyes so he should be able to help out.

Cheers for the advice!
