Re: Investing in Farm Land in Argentina
Personally I think it is very difficult to get a handle on how anybody would manage it for you. Unless it's a large reputable company with a good track record that can do this for you. Since the Peso nosedive and their currency is pegged to the dollar, it should be a good bet though. There is a risk but rewards should be pretty huge if it works out.
For a slightly less risky strategy you could play this cycle by either looking at John Deere, Titan or New Holland who are involved in tractors and agricultural equipment (predominantly in the States), as a lot of these farmers are now cash flush and need new machinery to cultivate their oil crops. For funds look at CF Eclectica Agricultural Fund or else look at Diapason Commodities Agricultural Index Fund or else the Diapason Global Biofuel Index fund (Google both for more information). For ETF's Grains that track baskets such as corn, wheat etc look at www.eftsecurities.com or try www.barclays.com and go into ETF's. Finally I am not affiliated or having any dealing with any of these companies presently, as my monies is unfortunately tied up in other areas. But later on in the year, I will invest in the Commodity Agriculture Index. Would be interested to know if anyone has invested in it and how it is going? It has a good rating presently among a basket of city analysts (I know that is not conclusive but its something to gauge it by).
Well done in German commercial property, its should be good (had a rant about it in the OPI section of AAM). I have 6 commercial units out there with rent reviews soon increasing yields to 10%.
Similar boat to you. Am in German commerical property like you and also have a position in a REIT logistics company.
What would your thoughts be on perhaps entering the agricultural sector in argentina thru buying a managed farm....i.e. owing the land but employing a farm manager.
