I am wondering if somehow could point me in the right direction. I bought a house a year ago and in the attic it has spray foam insulation.
At the time of purchase, I thought this was great, but in the last number of months I have seen numerous stories from the UK about banks not willing to offer mortgages to people buying houses with this kind of insulation.
The engineer who surveyed my house now tells that he would now be putting a question mark over my attic space if he was redoing the survey today.
The insulation was not installed by the previous owner but by the one before that and I don't think I have a way of finding out which company completed the work. Nor, do I know of any certificate of completion.
I know there are grants available to insulate the attic space and my initial sense is to take it all down and just get the floor insulated. I know this will cost me several thousand euro but I have a general unease in relation to the spray foam.
Just wondering if any AskAboutMoney-ers have encountered a similar issue? And if someone could maybe recommend an expert who come and examine my attic and tell me whether it's done properly or not? Thank you for your help.
