Impact of planned gap in employment?

I'm about to change jobs, and I'd like to take the opportunity to travel before starting my new role. So, for approximately 4 weeks, I won't be an employee of any company. I don't wish to claim the dole or receive any other payments for this time period.

Reading through some past threads, some seem to suggest that I should "sign-on" so that my PRSI is not impacted, but I don't intend to be in the country.

If I do nothing, are there any implications for any future welfare/pension payments that I may be entitled to? Is there anything else that I should consider?
