The broader issue is probably protecting the OP’s overall wealth.
Where there’s marital breakdown on the cards for a child and the parent has a reasonable amount of wealth, it’s important that the parent amends his/her will to settle the child’s share of the estate into a discretionary trust.
That way the departing spouse can’t get a slice of it.
