I am upgrading my Apple - should I be concerned about Trump?

I have to upgrade my mac-mini OS
Upgrades to the OS on Apple's computers are free, you connect to Apple's site and download them from the internet, and you can't buy the OS as a discrete software package. I don't understand your concern and some other posters don't help make the thread any clearer.

And yes, Apple does "configure to order" on certain models in Cork.

@mathepac - Thank you for the valid point you made about the OS, which - as you point out - can be downloaded. I have a late 2012 mac-mini that needs to be replaced as I don't think it will be able to cope with newer OS upgrades. Currently its running on Catalina 10.15.17 and its slow.

Apologies to everyone for the confusion!

because the tariffs imposed by Trump will affect the cost of US goods to Ireland amongst other things?
To be clear any tariffs imposed by Trump won't impact your purchase here in Ireland. They will make imported goods to the US more expense to buy in the US.

Retaliatory tariffs levied on imported goods from the US by the EU are more your concern.

I can't see what your concern is. If you are ready to buy now, M4 Mac Mini's are available for delivery in 5-7 days, and you pay the price shown at the time you place the order (i.e. today). So there is nothing to worry about.

If you are buying in 4-6-8 weeks time nobody knows what price you will be paying as the goods could be subject to 25% tariffs or worse. So no point in worrying about that now, consider it when you are actually placing the order.

If that 2012 Mac mini hasn't been upgraded already. Technically you can upgrade that with more RAM and a SSD and use a software tool to run a later OS on it.

That said if you haven't done that before. You're probably not that technical and perhaps would be better buying a new one or newer used one. Depends on your budget.

I still dont get point of this thread. Whats the direct link between the us president and a piece of technology you own. This is farcial stuff really. If this concerns you then jusy buy a different produxt and bin the one thats casuing you to be so concerned. But a non US product.

It will rise prices perhaps. So buy sooner rather than later.

Maybe it's along the lines of those anti musk stickers on Tesla's.

More impressed they are still using a 13yr old computer with a dual core chip in 2025.

I am too! 2012 iMac, maxed to 32gb runs perfectly...probably because I don't keep a lot on it - I work with what files I need to (photography clients), then back them up & delete them off the hd when delivered...3TB hd but always have had 2.5tb free. I can't upgrade past Sierra because I use Adobe Photoshop CS6, the last version you could buy & own! I will have to buy a new mac soon but more for video editing...I'll still use the 2012 mac & CS6 until I can! (Not really worried about tariffs pushing the price up!)
