I have been trying to delete this programme from my computer but I keep getting a message saying I have to close the programme first. any ideads how I could delete it?

Which specific anti-spyware programme?

Try booting into safe mode and uninstalling it there.

YOBR, have you installed any of the freeware available that scan's your machine and removes these chaps (spybot and adaware are decent tools).

In spybot's case it has a feature such that if it can't remove something for the reasons you specify above it will note it and should remove it on startup of your machine next time around (ie before it has a chance to kick off).

Did this just now with Mcafee on a new Dell. Had to go to the registartion process in the program, then select DECLINE and it has a removal process following there. Just in case this is what ure after!

Just to clarify, Silvamuppet is talking about removing spyware and adware. The OP appears (might be a mistake but I'd assume not) to be asking how to remove ANTI-spyware software (e.g. one of the tools Silvamuppet is talking about above).

Some of the software (although it's usually the anti-virus software not anti-spyware), especially the pre-installed stuff, can be a little tricky to fully remove. Best to post the exact software your talking about, or google for specifics on removing it. (I presume you've tried the normal add/remove programme stuff with no luck?)

SOrry, yes I was assuming that it was some sort of malware.

The likes of spybot and adaware incidentally are simple enough to remove.

You can right click on the taskbar, open the Task Manager, and then the processes tab, highlight the exe and click end process.

You should really use add remove programs in control panel, or at least find the folder that contains the app and delete it in its entirety.

Some apps just keep coming back and you would have to restart in safe mode to get them out.

You can also click Start, then run, type msconfig, go to Startup tab, and unclick any mention of the app that’s in there to stop it running on startup.

There may also be an uninstall icon in the start, programs menu of the application you want rid of.

PS be very very careful of downloading apps from the web which promise to remove certain programmes - do a websearch about the app itself before downloading and running.

Er guys, would it not be an idea to wait and see what specific program YOBR is trying to uninstall.

Some applications (and I'm thinking Norton and Update Manager which often come preinstalled) can be very difficult to remove unless you do it by the book and use the uninstallers those companies supply.

In my opinion identify the program first, (if required via Task Manager as already stated) then look it up on the web and see how to remove it.

The next question is"who'll perform the exorcism?" Seriously though we really need more info to sort the problem.
