How much? Boiler Burner Install

Well, my current boiler/burner is basically borked. It was installed back in 1994 by the previous owners of the house and was never serviced.

After running into a few issues with it, my plumber reckons we could nurse it through the winter. He reckons it's only working at about 75% efficiency also.

With a new baby in the house, I think we've to bite the bullet and get a new one. After doing a bit of my own research and asking a couple of people I know, I think we've settled for this Grant Condensing Boiler

I have looked at getting gas in but it's just not doing it for me. I reckon with the current rising gas prices, falling oil prices and increased installation costs of the gas, it would be 5/6 years before we'd break even if we went down the gas route.

Through knowing someone who knows someone, I'm able to get the Grant boiler at a very keen price including a flue kit. I'd have to get a new pump also but that's no biggy.

I'm just wondering, with the current climate in the construction industry and plumbers crying out for work, what should I expect to be paying for someone to replace the old boiler??

What to people think of this Grant model?

Thanks in advance

75% is near normal for a SE model. Do you know many plumbers crying out for work? Remember that the good firms are always busy and probably worth the wait. Price around. Grant is a leading boiler maker.

I assume its going in the same spot. I paid 500 to get a condensing unit in this year. Plumber was already doing work in my extension so this may have affected the price.

Hi

The price for the installation of the boiler depends on the work that need tobe done, ask a few plumbers to go out to your house and quote. Make sure the have a good look around so that you do not get nasty after charges as they had not antisipated this that and the other. A reputable plumber is recommended.

Also make sure that you get your new boiler commissioned, has the old boiler ever been commissioned, you should have a print out of the effeciency of your boiler then also the emmissions.

Getting a new boiler is an investment, if installed correctly and commissioned should give you nearly no problems in years to come, it is recommended though that you do get it serviced on a regular basis, get it serviced by an service engineer this may cost a little more but this will include a system check aswell and again a yearly print out of your boilers effeciency and emmissions.

Good Luck

Thanks. It's going in the same spot alright so everything is plumbed and there's already electricity in place. I've asked 2 plumbers today and both said they'd be interest but will get back to me. Maybe there's a price fixing cartell going on! :)

One of the plumbers even said it waould be handy enough to install and even suggested I'd do it myself!! I'm sure he'll be the cheaper of the 2
