selling a very small house bought in 1998, after selling in London, without a mortgage, so no registration of mortgage, registered at the registry of deeds in the old manner, not land registry, was not asked by solicitor then for a PPs number, there seems to be a problem with this now, any ideas appreciated, :(

I think we need more information. Is it possible that when you bought in 1998 your solicitor never stamped and registered the deed and needs to now, in order have good title to sell.

If that's the case, the deed needs to be stamped by revenue (regardless of whether stamp duty payable) and for this your pps no. is needed.

The PPSN number is required now for most official transaction from getting a driver's licence to applying for planning permission. If you do not have a PPSN number, you can apply for it through your local SW office or nearest PPSN Centre.

What is the problem? They (who?) want your PPSN now? Something else? Why is this a problem?
