A couple of friends and I stayed in a selfcontained apartment minutes from the Empire State Building in Midtown. Very spacious comfortable living that worked out very cheap. We stayed in a 2 bed but the apartment slept 6 comfortably and it worked out at only $60 a head each night! www.woogo.com
http://www.hotels.com (www.hotels.com) allows you to choose a preferred location in the city and lists hotels (giving distances) nearest to that location. It also orders hotles in various price ranges.
Tip: log onto http://www.hotels.com (www.hotels.com) making sure you are in the U.S. site and not in the Irish site (the Irish site will have an Irish flag in the top left hand corner) Prices can be cheaper going through the US site.
