The box isn't getting assigned an ip address from a dhcp server

True - I overlooked the fact that the IP address is probably an auto assigned one. :eek: But I feel a little vindicated given the fact that I did mention the possibility of DHCP allocation failure being an issue in my first post! Hopefully I didn't get the IT geeks sacked! ;)
 
Help from softies required Update

I changed 1 digit to render addresses anonymous.
It can see a gateway but nothing beyond it on the subnet
The IT guys did an update, a full repair fro the latest XP (with SP 2 included) installation and no luck (wher you boot the system to install and it finds an exiting installation and ask do you want to repair instead)

They then booted from a Mandrake linux CD and the PC worked fine - got its IP address and connected via the proxy to the internet.

So, its an XP software problem They suggest reinstall of the complete system.

Any more guesses before I go down that road?
