HELP! Best car choice

Mine too. But I think the US failures were related to high millage Leafs (Leaves?o_O) in hot climates and that they've improved the design since it was launched.

True, heat does play its part as they didn't include active cooling. In California there are quite a few reports of Leafs whose maximum range dropped below 60 miles after 5 years. They've changed the battery chemistry since the early generation ones to be more heal tolerant, but there's still a way to go there.

While the modules can be replaced independently, and there are some specialists in the UK who will do this for less than Nissan charge (I assume as I've yet to see official Nissan pricing), that's only effective for cell failure rather than degradation that affects all cells.

However in the unlikely event that you feel the need to change it after 5 years, the cost is set in line with the costs one would expect of replacing an engine.
Except that I wouldn't expect to need to replace an engine after 5 years and Irish consumer protection case law extends this to 6 years in any case, no matter what the manufacturer or dealer says. And yes you'll probably need to go to court, but that's what they're there for.

Thanks a million for all the input. Still undecided, but taking all the advice on board! Test driving a golf tomorrow......

so what's the latest? ............
Paddybloggit I'm between a 2015 qashqai or 2016 golf. Loved both, loved the height in the qashqai and it was really high spec and decent price. I think I'm leaning towards the qashqai but is it a mammy wagon??!!! You can give me an honest answer, I won't mind ;):p

What's your thoughts on both?

Bought nothing yet, I am between Seat Leon and Hyundai i30, prefer the Seat but none around in the colour I want, plenty of i30 but all seem to be ex hire cars, not so sure I'm fond of that idea!

I wouldn't have said a qashqai was a mammy wagon as I'd say it's hardly big enough if you needed 3 child seats, maybe I'm wrong though :)

Was in a golf today as passenger, nice car too, very solid, even the doors seem heavy to me but maybe that's because I'm used to my ancient tin box.

give me an honest answer
Personally I'd be choosing the Golf but you do say you're a tall guy so interior space comfort should be a number priority for you.

Also, in your fist post you (subliminally?) put the Qashqai before the Golf ..... o_O

TBH - the Qashqai doesn't look that bad at all ......

Bulbs, electronics, a problem with the Qashqai and yes, it's a mummy's car, just doesn't have any wow factor at all. Compare it to a Peugeot 3008? No contest, read the reviews if you don't believe me.

I am a mammy Monbretia but to teenagers - who wouldn't get into to a mammy wagon! When they were younger, unfortunately and embarrassingly I did have a mammy wagon.

I love the height and space In My Qashqai. Had a Hyundai i30 u til last year and did like that too, but find the Qashqai roomier.

Given we're talking about 2015/ 2016 models here, the 2009-2017 3008 is one ugly car in the no-longer popular MPV mould. The new 2017 model is a complete re-design firmly in the SUV camp.

Warranty Direct's reliability index puts the Qashqai a long way ahead of the 3008, and Peugeot repair costs are notably higher. Honest John only gives the old 3008 model 3/5, the new model gets 4/5 as does the current Qashqai. I wouldn't really classify any of the small or mid-size SUVs as mummy's cars, the boots are just too small to work. If you're thinking of buying one to lug one of those 'travel systems' and all the other associated nits and pieces around, take a good look before taking the plunge.

TALKING ABOUT THE NEW 3008. All i'm saying is to try it before buying a Qashqai, then you'll understand what i'm saying.

Qashqai is not a 'mummy car'! We tested both the Qashqai and golf but my wife prefers the Golf. Initially, I got more bruises on my shoulder from trying to get into the Golf before the door had swung open far enough. Nissan didn't feel as solid but is much higher and easier to get into.
