Heated Floor Mats in Bathroom

Hello, my builder has recommended I put in a heated floor mat underneath the tiles in my bathroom (of new build). I am interested but wonder does that mean that if I ever want to change the floor tiles in years to come that I will not be able to take them up due to the system of heating mat underneath them. I will have a radiator in the bathroom also. Has anyone any experience of heating mats. Thanks a mill.
 
Hi Carrotcake. We just re-did 3 bathrooms in the house and got the heated mats in all three. I have to say that I was a bit sceptical about getting them but hubby is in the business and so we went ahead with the mats. I have to say, that they are terrific. They really make a difference - our downstairs loo didn't have a rad in it and the mat really takes the chill of of it (room was always really cool).

As regards changing the tiles, the mat would have to be replaced - but not the probe or the control panel. therefore you would just replace the mat which is not too expensive.

I thoroughly recommend them - only have them about 6 weeks and I'm really thrilled with them. If you've any more questions let me know.
 
Thanks very much Scals for that positive feedback on the heating mats. I'll definitely put it on my list to talk to the plumber about when he is doing the heating in the house. Thanks again.:)
 
I put these in my house.
Just two things to keep in mind as to why I wouldn't recommend them.
Firstly they take a long time to heat up as the heat is radiated through the tiles.
Secondly they are expensive to run and should only be used as a secondry sourse of heat. You would be better off breaking into your rad system and putting an extra rad in the circuit.
The heat is nice on your feet but is it worth it? I think not.
