my friend was left 50k from her dad, who sold his house before he died and gave 50k euro to each of his 5 children, friend has lived, worked and is a resident in boston usa, as well as irish citizenship, she put the money in a non resident BOI a/c 7 years ago and is presently getting and got negligible interest, what advice would you give her please,

Am I right in saying that her principal currency is USD?

Does she ever intend to return to Ireland or make big EUR purchases?

If her principal currency is USD and most of her future purchases are in USD then she should convert the 50,000 EUR into USD using an online broker. Then transfer the money into a US deposit account.

thanks Ciaran t, I would be of the same opinion, do you think that there are any irish/usa tax revenue implications if she transfers this money, as having spoken to her she does not intend to live in Ireland again and has been in usa over 25 years
