Has anybody purchased an affordable house directly from the developer?

I am trying to do so at the moment but the developer is delaying the process by not setting a Market value for the units the council are waiting for him to do so but I was just wondering how does this work?
 
Can you do this? I thought the whole idea of affordable housing was that the council decided if you were allowed to buy one.
 
My sister bought her af house from the builder directly, the council tell the builder who is taking the house, the contracts come from the builder and the clawback contracts come from the council. It was a quicker process as the builder wants his money as the council dont seem to be in a panic re how long it takes, I am buying af house off the council and ten months later still no futher along.

Hey how did you go about buying a house dirctly from the builder? Can you approach any builder from the affordable housing scheme? Do you still get it at the same price?
 
In my situation I did not know it was the developer I was buying from. I just applied in the normal way to the council and they told me I was eight on a shortlist for 14 houses. So as you do I got excited just to be told a few weeks later that it was the developer i was buying from and not the council. The houses are part of a private estate and the council picks the people but the developer decides the market value of the house and we buy of him so its his solicitor etc. you deal with. The problem is that the council say it is their first time doing this and dont really know whats going on.
 
And this is one of the biggest councils in the country tarting to think I know more about this than they do. we should make the local authorities read these posts. I have been told it will be decided in a couple of weeks for the last 14 weeks. :confused:

I see what you mean now. I thought you meant that you went straight to the builder and had no dealings with council. The council approve you and you pay €1,000 for the pleasure, then all your dealings are with the builder.
