Glad I don't know any of your mates!! You're basically saying that they'll be charged a higher hourly rate if the job takes only 1-2 hours.

That's taking the proverbial !

It may be so, but is quite commonplace, in my experience. Best bet is normally to postpone getting such jobs done until you have the guts of a day's work for them.

Hi,
I had a man yesterday to do some jobs :
1. glue and tighten screws on 3 stools
2. Replace 3 door locks
3. plane a door

Cost 120 euro cash, I thought it was expensive

What kind of glue did he use? If it was general wood workers glue he's wasted his time, the best one I've come across is a 2 pack glue you can get in a car shop or extramite glue (what castamite is called now)..

I don't know why you guys are getting into knots over hourly reates and full day's pay for half day's work .... surely the rate being quoted for the job is based on how long it will take and not the hourly rate?

Any tradesman worth his salt will know how long it will take to do the job. If he feels he won't have time to go to another job that day, he will quote for a day's pay. If the person doesn't like the quote, they needn't take it.
