Ground Rent

Hi,
I bought my house 15 years ago and it is a leasehold site. I have never received a bill for ground rent but it has always been on my mind to buy out the ground rent and make it Freehold. I contacted the Housing Department in my local council and they have asked for a copy of the lease. I don't have a copy of this.
Would this be held with the title deeds with my mortgage provider?

The council owns the leasehold but they told me that they don't have the original lease anymore as they gave them out to the homeowners way back. Seems strange.
Anyway I spoke to another solicitor and they said that a copy of the lease should be with the title deeds with my mortgage provider. So I have requested a copy from my bank. I had to send them a signed letter to request them.

Ah, it might vary from LA to LA. When I originally went to purchase mine from Dublin City Council they were looking for the lease/ deeds to betaken up from the bank to complete the purchase. The bank weren't playing ball, so I dropped it, figuring I'd tackle it if I went to remortgage. A few years later they wrote to me saying they had changed the system and no longer required the original lease to complete.
