Google Pay Limit Question

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this.

I've been using Google Pay a lot lately after adding my AIB Platinum credit card to it. So far, I've made transactions over €150 using NFC on my phone. It’s been very handy, especially since I've had issues with the card’s chip and PIN—particularly when grocery shopping.

Does anyone know what the limit for Google Pay is? I couldn’t find a clear answer. Some sources say there’s no limit because it doesn’t require chip and PIN like a physical card, others say it’s set by your bank, and some mention that it depends on the merchant.

For example, if I want to purchase something worth €2,000, can I simply tap my phone at the till, and will it go through?

Thanks!

I think the answer is the maximum would be your daily limit on whatever card you use but each merchant might also have a limit so lower off the two amounts is the limit.

No, they've a limit on tapping the phone
Definitely not €50. I tapped my phone for €124 yesterday in Tesco and have done higher there in the past.
I tapped (Google wallet/AIB Platinum) for €2,200 in a furniture store last year without any problem.
As mentioned above I think the max is your daily limit.
