Just wondered what the regulations are if I get rid of the TV, and only use RTE player, and DVDs on my computer. Do I still need a TV license even though I cannot receive live TV broadcasts?
Did you remove all ferrous material from your premises? Including wire coat hangers, cutlery, the Iron from your blood? etc, etc... All can receive radio waves.
I know it sounds a joke, but that is what the Post Office told me, it sound more like a tax than a licence. Even though I paid up before the court case, I got the probational act. no fine.
Ask the landlord to remove it, or offer to bring it to a recycling centre for them if you can. So long as it's on the premises, you'll need a TV license.

I had heard some suggestion that they would put the license on any device that could use the RTE-Player also (ie any internet connected PC). The availability of online streaming and downloads is making the TV license very tricky to enforce in it current form.
