Hi,

I am looking for some advise please...

Myself and my husband are currently saving for a self build we hope to have the 20% by next May.

The question I have is that I am expecting a baby and I am due in November I get paid leave from work for 26 weeks and then I have the option of taking the 4 months unpaid which I had intented to do by now looking at it it looks like the time we will be ready to apply for the mortgage I will be on unpaid leave so will have no proof of earning.. Do you know how the bank would treat my case? I would still be in full time employment but just on unpaid leave.

I dont want to have to wait for a further 6 months to apply after I go back to work so if the banks wont allow it it just means I will go back to work after the 26 weeks..

Would apericate your opinions on this.
Thanks

My wife is on unpaid leave. Was told by bank to wait until she goes back to work to apply, as the bank has to see that she is actually working. They will not rely on your word that you are going back, they need to see it unfortunately.

I had a different experience when I applied for a mortgage last year with AIB. I was just starting my unpaid maternity leave at the time so was able to provide payslips for the previous months. We did tell them that I was going to be on unpaid leave and the only thing they asked for was a confirmation from my employer on my return to work date. We got the mortgage approval straight away. So it may differ on the bank's policy but I would say just ask! Best of luck!
