With lots of encouragement from my BIL, a London-born and reared Cork man, years ago I took out a subscription to Which? magazine, which came with frequent emailed reminders to renew, all of which exhortations I have successfully resisted. The emails have continued and the latest, as per the thread title, looks to have a couple of gems.

To avoid confusion I've put this in a thread of its own as the apps are both iOS and Android. I've used a couple of them over the years, Citymapper, being one and BBC Sounds being another. Enjoy.

Free Android & iOS Apps

Alas it looks like BBC Sounds will be geo-blocked outside UK :(
There is a new BBC Audio app available worldwide, but it only has live listening for Radio 4 & World Service, and some podcasts.
I don't see any general ability to listen back to Radio 4 programmes.

Interesting that AllTrails is high on the list even though the 'free' version wouldn't be recommended for actual mountain use. Have never used it but am a long time user of OutdoorActive (formerly ViewRanger). Last time I looked at price of the Pro version it was €29.99 for the year but you can use FSCHALLENGE10R (enter code before payment) to get a first year discount of €10 off that. Pro version is fine, didn't see the need for the more expensive Pro+ version.

The dislikes are expressions of dislike about the loss of BBC Sounds btw and how limited the suggested replacement BBC Audio app is :(

What/where is the "BBC Audio" app?
I can't find it on the Android store or by searching the web.
All I can find is this web page.

Ok, so it gets confusing, because it was marketed to me by the BBC as "BBC Audio".

This is the Audio section on the BBC site which will remain available internationally:

And then seems like the same content \ live stations are available in the Audio section of the BBC app.

Disaster, BBC Sounds is the best for 5 live football and World service for live football when 5live blocks it!

I am a big fan of "Transit" a real time public transport app - actually shows you where the bus is on the route so you know if its a ghost bus or not!! Much better than the TFI apps
