Fitted Wardrobe

Hi,
Looking to get a 2ft deep * 3ft wide * 8ft high wardrobe in a box bedroom, 1/3 of which will cover the part of the slanted ceiling above the stairs that cuts into the bedroom. I got a quote of 1200-1800, 2 days preparation and 4 days work? Does this seem too much for plain white wood, 1 shelf on top and some half drawers on the bottom?

I have had a lot of fitted wardrobes fitted recently, I had two fitted in the last month both around the same size as yours (alcoves either side of a fireplace) the installers came out, took detailed measurements, drew detailed sketches for my approval and both were installed in 1 day. Everything was precut and just had to be assembled in the bedroom. In one wardrobe I had two rails, one pull down one (my ceilings are higher, around 9 and a half feet) and a lockable jewellery drawer between them. In the other one I had a pull down rail, 2 metal baskets under it on one side and four drawers on the other side. They cost 1495.00 from Bedroom Elegance in Dorset Street. I've no connection with them but they are brilliant, I couldn't be a happier customer.
 
Got wardrobes fitted recently just put shelving in, no drawers. Drawers cost more (more work apparently)
 
Hi iandublin2 did you go ahead and get this done? I am looking for something similar at the moment in my box room and would love to hear how you got on and what price you got it done for.

I recently got my wardrobes in my master bedroom updated. I had 2 double wardrobes, floor to ceiling with a shelf in between with a single drawer underneath.

We kept the carcass and got new doors fitted on the double wardrobes, replaced the shelf with a new thicker shelf and got 3 drawers fitted under the shelf to the floor to replace the small single drawer. Also got an overhead cupboard above the shelf at ceiling height. One of the wardrobe doors aswell has a mirror floor to ceiling in it.

The wood is all 22mm thick MDF and had a nice router design in it and came primed white with brushed aluminium handles. Cost was €700 which I thought was very good. Its all hand made and the doors are a lot more solid than what you would get in a kitchen/wardrobe store.

I can highly recommend this guy who was recommended to me through a friend of mine after I seen the wardrobes he put in his place in both his kids bedrooms.

All fitted in a day from about 11am to 7pm

Box room, same setup as original poster. Have two quotes of €550 and €500 for foil wrapped MDF oak effect.
 
Kitchen King in Celbridge and some other kitchen/wardrobe place in Celbridge whose name escapes me.
 
I disagree.. next you'll be saying not to pay more than 2K for a kitchen. While some companies seem to be charging 550 not all are... and the 550 stuff must be bottom of the range, in my opinion.


It depends on the quality... but I think 500 to 550 is very cheap, and I'd wonder about the quality, both of the wardrobe, carcase etc, and the quality of the fitting.

I'm not sure if people are comparing like with like, there can be many differences between different wardrobes, which can have an effect on the price... same as cars or suits, while there are cheaper versions of both, there are also higher quality, more expensive versions...
 
The Panelling Centre have 25% off everything at the moment and I have decided to buy all the materials from there and have a carpenter build/fit for me.

Standard materials, nothing fancy, ie doors are a cherry style MDF, side panels are a matching chip, interior is patterned chip. Shelves with a central divider and one low rail (kids room). Approx 102cm wide, 50cm deep and ceiling to floor (8ft).

Is working out around about €400 all in.
