First Time Buyers with an Ulster Bank Home Saver account can get an additional €2,000 "cash back".

I spoke to UB today about opening the Home Saver account. They noted that I did not need a current account with them to open the account but if I wanted to withdraw money and have online access I needed a current account with them. I asked about basic free accounts and she said their were none available to everyone. There was one but you needed to be offered it and was for people with poor credit history.

Perhaps that is the Foundation Account.

Also is there any advantage of opening a joint account over a single account? Currently we are both managing our our savings and I don't see a need for us to join at this time unless it would help at mortgage time?

Ulster Bank offer Easy Access saving account which allows online access for lodgements and withdrawals:

i think this account might be sufficeint to do what you need to do without opening a current account!

I only have a home saver account with them and have online access to it.
