Thanks cashier, in a pickle since this evening, but if it was my child Id be on to West doctor immed as child in some discomfort and shocking to see a raw rash.
I thought they were waiting for the doctor monday and when I suggested westdoc the story of not having a medical card for the youngest child came up. I didnt want to offend by offering money but i did say if anything I could help with and so left feeling slightly sick and very worried.
I am not sure if they have to pay maybe when they do get the card the money will be refunded.
Actually come to think of it I think they should go straight to the hospital A&E probably cheaper than westdoc and apply to get the child's name added to medical card next week, it can be done online on the hse website. They can argue their case when they get the A&E bill.
It is not right that families have to suffer so much because of lack of free access to a doctor.
The rash though worrying could be measles, ther is a bad outbreak of it in London at the moment.
Getting the child covered on the family Medical Card is only a phone call. Phone up the nearest HSE Medical Card Section with the family Medical Card number and the child's name, date of birth and child's PPS no and the child will be covered there and then.
In the meantime, GPs have been known to cover the child by using a sibling's or parent's card until the real card is issued.
