I am wondering whether it is worthwhile getting the meter installed considering there is an installation charge and a "higher standing charge every 2 months"..quoted from info on its website.Anyone know what and how much this standing charge is.
Thanks

I *think* it's 20 Euro per bill, I looked it up on their web site about a week ago, so it's up there - can't quite remember it off hand. Not sure about installation costs - I remember thinking it didn't apply to me, so they had something about it up on their site.

Whether it's worth it - you need to work out how much energy you use and how much you could transfer over to the night band.

Don't forget water - can have it hot for when you get up in the morning.

It's notably cheaper - however, this is dependent on your bills. Have a look at 1. your bills, and 2. the appliance calculator on their web page which will give you an approximation of the amount of energy standard appliances use. Work out what you'd be able to change over to the night rate.

- Worked out, not worth it for me - but I'm generally a low energy user. Putting on a wash in at night isn't suitable. In fact at night, everything is off, so it's only hot water I'd get from it.

As of May of this year our nightsaver tarriff was calculated as following (excl vat) : Day units - €.1415, night saver units €.070 and €.3460 per day standing charge. Hope this helps. Just checked esb website the unit rates have increased as from 01/08 to €.1706 for day units and €.844 for night units

Thanks for the info.I have time delay for my dishwasher as well as washing machine.I'll check the website again and look at the appliance calculator.

on night rate and think it is very dear have bills of approx.€400 every 2 months and i never use dishwasher, washing machine or tumble dryer before 12 midnight and the immersion is turned on as I go to bed and turned off by 9a.m every morning the units you use in the day are charged at a higher rate and so is the standing charge so it is win win for the esb

Surely having the immersion on all night is a waste. The immersion will constantly work to keep the water at a high temperature and this will add to your charges.

Surely a timer switch on the immersion would be a good idea. At the very least you're using 2 hours in the morning at the full rate, on top of the immersion being on all night.
