Indeed, Turlough Hill is a very useful storage facility despite the sizeable overhead. I expect that most homes will end up with a Powerwall type battery which can also connect to the grid and charge from cheap off-peak electricity.

Yeah, as battery technology improves and micro-generation becomes more widespread to hit building energy ratings, without grid buy back, it's a logical move.
 
Why are we one of the only countries in the EU where there's no grid buy-back?
 
I think I'll wait and see how many Powerwall houses go up in flames before I put the energy equivalent of 15 gallons of petrol under the stairs.
