I'm looking for information on electric storage heating.

1. About how much would it cost to install 5 electric storage heaters including the heaters, wiring labour etc ?.
2. Do they have to be wired in separately to existing wiring in the house?
3. Can other appliances (e.g. washing machine) be used on the night rate and if so does the socket they are connected to have to be rewired to the night rate meter?
4. Why is it necessary to have a separate meter - can the existing meter not be modified?

Thanks if you can answer any of the above questions?

1. No idea personally, but ther eare previous threads that might give you some guidance.

2. They will need to be wired back the consumer unit on a separate circuit.

3. Yes, all electricty used during the night-saver period will be at the reduced rate.

4. You need a special dual meter, one to track usage during the day, one to track usage during the reduced night rate period.

I don't recommend electric storage heating if at all possible. There have been many posts on the merits of it versus other forms of heating.

I'm looking for information on electric storage heating.

1. About how much would it cost to install 5 electric storage heaters including the heaters, wiring labour etc ?. Approx 500.00/ 600.00 per heater but the load cannot exceed 60 amps on the storage heating. Fuseboard & there is a fee to be paid to the ESB for the connection.
2. Do they have to be wired in separately to existing wiring in the house? Wired seperately
3. Can other appliances (e.g. washing machine) be used on the night rate and if so does the socket they are connected to have to be rewired to the night rate meter? You could go for a dual tarriff meter but if you do this your standing charge is increased & you would need to use your water heating , washing machine , dishwashers, tumble dryer etc between 24.00 - 08.00 otherwise it will not pay & you should go for a seperate night storage heating meter
4. Why is it necessary to have a separate meter - can the existing meter not be modified? The electricity for the storage heating is at a different rate to the general purpose load and is available at this rate between 24.00 and 8.00 only

Thanks if you can answer any of the above questions?
