What are Aer Lingus' responsibilities to passenegers stranded abroad due to the ATC system failure at Dublin airport? A quick answer would be appreciated as I have someone who needs assistance.

What does their T&C say on thier site. For what it's worth I'd guess they have no responsibilities to their customers as it's not of their making, it's a H&S issue which lies with IAA.

Will their travel insurance cover them?

Only in Ireland, as you say, Fred - this is the third time in the past couple of months that me or a relative has been messed about coming into this poxy little airport. The level of incompetence and self-interest that pervades DA is astonishing in this day and age.

My mum is trying to fly from Birmingham to Dublin... Only managed to get her ryanair flight re-booked fortomorrow night. Who should we ask to refund her B&B expenses for tonight? Is anyone liable?

On Wednesday evening last, we arrived to Rome Airport to get a flight home. After queing for 30 minutes, the girl behind us, mentioned that she received a Text message that DA was closed. The agents in Rome kept booking people in and 20 minutes later they stood up called everybody over, and clearly apologised that they had been told by Aer Lingus to cease booking people in; to shut down the departrures and to offer nothing to nobody. The booking staff were as disgusted as the passengers. There was one plane traveling to Belfast which was booked up so everybody else had to paddle their own canoe. We had to book a flight to Heathrow which arrived at around midnight. Then had to hang around Heathrow all night without as much as a cup of coffee and not even a toilet operating. Then had to book a flight to Belfast and catch a Taxi to Dublin. Hate to say it but Aer Lingus are a parcel of jokers who really could not give a damn about their customers.

I sat for 8 hours in Manchester airport last Friday, flight at 8 was cancelled, we were put on the 15.00 flight, which finally left at 15.30. The Ryanair flight at 7.55 left at 8.25. The 15.00 from Aer Lingus wasn't full...I wonder if they are deciding to make the best out of a bad situation - cheaper to refund a few people who want it than putting out 2 return planes when 1 will do...
