Hi we are driving to Spain for just over 90 days and my insurance company have told me they only cover me for 45 days. Are there any alternative insurance cover or options open to me.

I managed to get 60 with mine but couldnt get 90. 90 hard to get in market but AFAIK AXA do it

Did they offer any alternatives? Ours included cover as per our normal cover for x days, then up to y days at whatever the legal min was in the country we were travelling to. Then we could also purchase a top up to get us our normal coverage for the full period we were away. It was around 60 EUR or so so well worth it.

AA customers depending on their car insurance policy can enjoy taking their car to europe with cover from 31 says to 93 days.

Motor insurance

Motor insurance is a compulsory requirement to drive a car in a public place. A current Certificate of Insurance is required to get motor tax.

You can usually take your car for up to 31 days to another EU member state for no extra charge. Your existing cover can be extended for stays of up to 60 or 90 days duration but you may have to pay an additional fee for this cover.

Are there any alternative insurance cover or options open to me.

Probably of little use to you now but Aviva cover you for 90 days of European travel at no extra cost to your yearly premium
And you can extend this by an additional 90+ days up to six months max for 30 odd euros a month
Six months European travel is the most you can get on an Irish policy and IIRC it's only third party not comprehensive

One thing to note when driving abroad is to make sure your Road Tax and NCT are in date while there
I've heard stories from a few English people living over there that the Spanish police won't hesitate in fining you if they find one cert or another out of date while driving over there
