Dole/JSA... why do some people get diff amounts?

I heard a guy on newstalk this morning saying he was only getting 40 euro a wk on what he called the dole.
I know people who are getting 200 euro a month.
This man on newstalk said that he was only get this amt as he wife works.

The people I know have wives who work too...
Are they on different things ie jsa??
 
The means test for Jobseeker's Allowance assesses household income and savings, so it's possible that people on JSA are entitled to different amounts.
 
My bf's friend gets €35 a week because his girlfriend who he lives with works full time. They rent, have no savings (these were depleted when he lost his job and couldn't find more work) and their first child is due in about a month. Makes you wonder about this country...

yeah makes you wonder why people get pregnant when they're struggling financially.
 
Derek you have no idea of this couple's circumstances so don't pass judgment.

I was merely giving an example to the OP.
