Is anyone doing any discounts for this age group ? Passport for Leisure has been stopped.
Hotels are only mid week.

Check Here. Also if you do a search using the wording "golden years trips" you can find proposals from different companies. In terms of shops Boots and Woodies have discounts for over 60s

Not sure if this is of any use?
It's a real shame that Dublin City Council ceased (?) the Passport for Leisure scheme.

OPW Heritage cards is €30 for over 60s, normal price is €40

AIB, BOI and PTSB do not apply charges to current accounts for those who are 66 and over. For joint accounts both holders must be 66 or over. You must apply for this, they do not cease charging automatically. If you already have a current account they simply cease charging once you apply, it does not require you to open a new account.

I've gotten it most times and I'm a few years short of 60, makes my day if I'm honest.
yes they never ask or look for proof, a friend of mine who is 55 is regularly given it, mind you I think she looks even younger than that!

You'd want to suffer from dimentia and be senior to shop at woodies and pay their prices
Was about to post similar. Most of those big stores are far more expensive for most of their products. Big stores, lots of advertising, and the amount of stock that gets damaged on display are expensive. They can be fine for some heavily advertised items, but you need to do your homework.

You'd want to suffer from dimentia and be senior to shop at Woodies and pay their prices which are at least 50% more than what you'd pay elsewehere such as screwfix.

Agree but stick my head in and sometimes get a bargain.. last time was a small metal stepladder for 11.99 and after Christmas picked up Christmas tree lights at 60% discount.
Their own branded stuff is dreadfully poor quality especially the paint, painful lesson years ago.

Not entirely true! If you watch what you are buying you can do well, I got a Karcher window washer last year and Woodies was cheaper than anywhere else even before the discount and I did check Screwfix as well as many others! I also bought rolls of attic insulation there few years ago for cheaper than everywhere else including all local builders providers.

Same as any purchase, shop around.

I’m a fan of Woodies, not that I think anything is cheaper there, but the on-the-spot advice is immeasurable from the staff. There’s the percentage discount on Thursdays (a plus). They have a terrific amount of stock so largely it’s a one-stop-shop too. Their garden centres are good too and pleasing to the eye. In fact, if I have a bad day at the races, a walk through most garden centres is pleasing.

My Woodies Tip at this time of year:- Some people will buy a good petrol lawnmower or petrol power washer and find that the machine is too heavy or whatever. They bring it back to Woodies in favour of a lighter machine. Woodies sell off the original machines at knock down price. These machines are usually only a day or two old and have extremely light use.

While I’m on a roll here are a couple of tips that will save you a couple of ton at least before the weekend:-
Petrol Power Washer:- (I) Replace the spark plug every year, five mins at most. (Ii) Clean air filter, 1 min max. (Iii) Top up with oil* (3 mins).

Petrol Lawnmower:- (I) Replace spark plug every 3 years. (Ii) Clean air filter (iii) Top up oil.

*Most machines have a cut off facility when oil level decreases. You could break your back pulling the cord trying to get the engine to ignite. So save your back, arms and legs, top up on oil.

The foregoing has just saved you a couple of ton and before the weekend begins as you have just serviced your own power washer and lawnmower. Book your summer holiday before Scotland V Ireland tomorrow as your reward. And no disc moved from your back.

If you don’t know what a spark plug is or how to replace one just look on YouTube.

Boots and Woodies have discounts for over 60s
Can anyone advise me how this works in practice in Boots.

Mrs. Isle has had a Boots Advantage card for many years. She gets points on every purchase. However she has never received a discount nor been offered one. Apparently there is 10% off a €20 discount, 15% off a €30 purchase and 20% off a €40 purchase.

Looking at their website if you join their "club" you get a free gift. No idea how to claim it. You can also enter in to a free draw for something....no details how you do this.

She never receives updates or emails from Boots either.

When she makes a purchase and presents her card they never offer a receipt, you have to ask. If you remember to ask after the transaction she gets the sorry it's too late the transaction has been completed.

It would be very easy to double up on some supplements when visiting to get the discount but until we read this thread we did not know it existed.

Mrs. Isle is well over 60 years of age.

I think I was informed by email that I was eligible for over 60's double points. I just had to follow a link and say OK - note I think. I've never checked whether I get more points to be honest as I don't shop there that often since.
