Hi All,
im just looking for some advice, i am currently on disability and put in my certs every month, when i was first put on disability it was for blood pressure issues so thats what my doctor put on my cert, it turned out that my blood pressure issues are due to chronic anxiety and depression, the only thing is that the doctor still puts hypertension and hypotension on my cert, i have a medical exam coming up, im not too worried about my eligability as i have a letter from my social worker stating that i am unfit for work but im just wondering whether i should have reapplied under the new diagnosis, i wanna do this before my exam cause i dont wanna be cut off.

should i go down to them and see what they say in the social?

Social welfare mightn't be the best people to talk to. Ring the number for illness benefit and explain your concern. Unfortunately even people with letters from practitioners and specialists sometimes have their claims turned down. Don't worry though, you can appeal if this is the case and you will be entitled to jobseekers benefit while under appeal, you wouldn't be means tested while it's under appeal.

Hopefully you'll pass the medical anyway, but don't get too worried. |You can also have someone with you and are entitled to apply to see results of the exam if turned down. Best of luck.

If you are not given continued benefit do appeal. The appeal system is very successful and very just. They are in my experience, I deal with them for work, very friendly to deal with and very fair.
Good luck Browtal

First of all, a social worker cannot make a medical diagnosis regarding your fitness for work (unless they also have a degree in medicine). They can of course state their opinion, but that’s all it is – an unqualified opinion that would have no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of your medical assessment with the MRA.

There is little or no point in ringing DSFA Illness Benefit section, as you would be talking to someone in a clerical position, so the only advice that they can give you is to talk to your GP.

As soon as an Illness Benefit claim goes into payment, as a control, & depending on the specified illness, the file is flagged for a medical review/assessment after it has been in payment for a given amount of time. So, there is no need at all for you to worry about the assessment.

Your GP should have been notified by the MRA section that you have been scheduled for a medical assessment/review, & he/she will have been invited to submit any further information pertaining to your medical condition. That would be taken into account & included in your file. Secondary & related medical conditions are quite common in many cases, so don’t be concerned as to what illness is specified on your certs.

If you are at all concerned you should speak to your GP, who will explain this to you, & allay any concerns that you may have. If, for some reason your GP has not been notified of your forthcoming assessment/review, he/she will still be able to submit more information to the MRA section, so you really shouldn’t worry at all at this stage.
