Hi,

Just looking for some info as to where I stand with the following.

A position became available in the company I work for in a closer location to my home. I applied to get transferred as it was the very same role I am currently in. I was told that I would have to apply and go through the interview process even though it was the same position. I did this, went through 2 interviews and weeks later have been told I have been unsuccessful. I cannot understand this as I have been in my current (same) role for over a year with no diciplinaries or negetive feedback from my superiors....can I take this further or do I just have to accept this.

Thanks in advance:)

Sorry to hear your bad news but I don't think there is much you can do except perhaps to ask for an explanation as to why you were unsuccessful.

there could be lots of reasons - there may have been someone else also at the same level who applied for the role who had more experience, different managers will look for different qualities in their staff, someone else may have done a better interview on the day...

The position hasn't been filled yet...

What I don't understand is that I have being doing my job perfectly well in one location so why not the other.....I'd be under the same manager in both

Ask for an explanation and ask for constructive feedback.
If you get fobbed off ask to see all the interview notes from both interviews. You are entitled to view them.

If you are in your role for less than a year it may mean you are only getting up to speed in your current location, moving you could mean 2 people to train up rather than one. all things being equal as your manager i'd probably try to keep you in your current location, there's nothing to stop you chatting to your manager and selling them on why it's a good move to relocate you.
Would you be unhappy enough to make you look for another job?
Realistically can you easily transfer skills from one location to another without downtime,
Would you be willing to put in extra time to train up a new appointee in your current location.

Is there any possibility that your current manager put a spanner in the works as s/he didn't want the hassle of training in someone new.

Did you get any feedback from your manager smels? I wouldn't get a union involved or start asking to see interview docs just yet. Try have a discussion with your manager and get some feedback.
