Cross-Border inheritance tax

Hi there,

Does anyone have any experience of using a specialist/advisor to help sorting out double taxation on a uk inheritance. I lost my mum last September in the uk, and myself (in ireland) and brother and sister (uk based) are the three beneficiaries. I realise that in the uk the estate is taxed and in Ireland the individual. I haven't a clue who to ask for help in guiding me through the minefield of double taxation. All advice welcome.

It's quite simple really

Whoever is administrating the estate in the UK will be responsible for filing and paying the Estate tax in the UK

You are responsable for paying any CAT due in Ireland on your share of the estate. You will have to file an IT38 return to the Revenue.

CAT will be due at the rate of 33% on the value of the inheritance above € 335,000

You will get credit for 1/3rd of the tax paid in the UK, assuming the estate is split equally
