I didn't find Suze Ormans book very useful, but a lot of people swear by it, so it may be good for you! If you find Suze and Alvin in the library, you will find other books on personal finance beside them, which gives you a chance to look at different types of advice...

This may be an impractical suggestion but if anyone is considering getting a credit card the best way of keeping yourself from going crazy on it is to set it to pay off 100% of the balance whenever the bill comes due. At least you get the benefit of the "free" credit till the next bill but you get a shock if you've gone on a spending spree.
