Cost of veterinary medicines vs human versions

I am currently supplying palliative care to my 10 year old Rottweiler, diagnosed with cancer, with the assistance of his vet.

I see from the receipt I got today that vet meds attract VAT @ 23%, which the human equivalents are free from apparently.

The treatment is a pain killer, 50mg x2 (banned pain-killer word) , twice daily and an anti-inflammatory, 72.50 mg Rimadyl also twice daily. 3 weeks (banned pain-killer word) costs €10.92 and the corresponding Rimadyl costs almost 4 times as much @ at €47.25. Both drugs require once-off prescriptions apparently, no repeat 3 times available.

Has anyone any idea of the costs of human equivalents?
