Healthcare costs - not insurance Cost of Root Canal & Crown

I visited my (Dublin based) dentist this week and need root canal treatment on a molar tooth which will need to be crowned.
The root canal treatment will be done by a specialist dentist in Dublin and then my own dentist will do the crown. I am being quoted about €1000 for the root canal & then €700 for a crown by my own dentist. Are these roughly the going rate for this kind of work in Dublin? I have no idea what something like this costs.

Obviously its not very feasible to go up North at the moment even though it would be cheaper

Thanks in Advance

Ouch! I got 2 root canals done in Smiles O'Connell street and was very happy with the standard of care.

I paid €450 for route canal a few years back in the cabra dental clinic.
Maybe try the dental hospital for prices and see if there any better

Is there a reason he is sending you to a specialist to have a root canal? Sometimes a specialist is required e.g. if you have a tooth with twisted roots.

Thanks appreciate this. €1000 seems v steep for root canal. I will check them out

Sounds to me like you're being referred to an endodontist. Some of those prices above are for regular dentists performing root canal treatment I'd say. Get a price from a different endodontist. I'm not a dentist but there must be some reason why your dentist is referring you on.

Hi, yes the above prices were for a standard dentist doing the root canals - I think some dentists don't do any root canals for some reason?

Well AFAIK specialist dentists like endodontists, orthodontists and prosthodontists spend at least another three years studying their speciality, after qualifying as a dentist. I'm guessing that all dentists do root canals, but would refer on to an endodontist more complex or difficult cases.

I am working my way through a root canal, in Cork, €750. The tooth is healing very very slowly and my dentist is considering sending me to another root canal specialist. I have had 6 visits and he has cleaned out the nerves 3 times. Very long and slow work, and the little rods he uses as one use only so lots of expense on his side. I am very happy with his work and I don’t want to lose the tooth. I can see where my money is going, so am happy to stick with my dentist.

I spent around €900 for a root canal on my front tooth a year or two back. It was with an Endodontist in The Northbrook Clinic in Ranelagh, Dublin. The whole thing was absolutely 99.99% pain free. He was excellent. Very happy with the service.

Thank you everyone for all your help. Whats clear is that there are wide variations in cost even within Dublin

I'm being quoted 650 for a Molar Back Tooth from my dentist in dublin, is there any better value out there that people have come across? I can see the Smiles one above at 550 which is good too, looking for others.
Also can anyone recommend a dental insurance that covers some/all of this type of procedure?
Many thanks.

I spent close to a 1,000 euro on a root canal and crown three years ago. The tooth was infected and it required repeated temporary fillings before the infection settled down and I got the crown.

It only lasted three years and the root cracked. Am now paying a second time for a dental implant.

I recommend that you ask your dentist how long you can expect the root canal and crown to last and whether an implant is a better alternative.

I had to see a specialist dentist on as I had a complicated issue for a root canal (basically my own dentist who is excellent, said my roots were like glass - and that wasn't a compliment!) The dentist was great but the root canal was 700 and I went back for the crown to my regular dentist which I think cost 250, so near as makes no difference to 1000.
